In the Spotlight: Creekside at Bethpage 55+ community

This month In the Spotlight checks in with Kianta Morrison, Lifestyle Manager at Creekside at Bethpage, a 55+ active retirement community in Durham, NC.

Tell us a little about Creekside at Bethpage, Kianta?

We opened in 2015 and when fully completed, we will be a community of 650 beautiful homes maintained by the homeowners’ association so our residents can live low-maintenance lifestyles with resort style amenities. Hemingway Hall, our 13,000 square-foot community centerpiece, includes social rooms and a hobby and game room as well as an arts and crafts studio, amphitheater, computer center, billiards tables, and a fully-equipped fitness center with an aerobics and dance studio. We’re conveniently located close to the airport,  local attractions, hiking and biking trails, ponds and a thriving retail and restaurant community.

It sounds like residents like to stay active, then?

Yes! Our live aqua and dance classes are extremely popular. Plus we have an activities director available to help maintain the social calendar as well as aid residents in chartering new clubs and scheduling events. We also have a lot of sports clubs, organized fitness classes, and gaming groups and people can also join in on gardening projects and arts and crafts events too.

How does FitnessOnDemand fit into your scheduled activities plan?

Beyond residents using the FitnessOnDemand system individually whenever they choose, we have weekly, scheduled cardio classes on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. On weekends when we don’t have live instructors in our classes, a lot of residents like the ease and convenience of using the FOD system to take a class on their own schedule. We’ve had a lot of feedback too that users like the simple touchscreen functionality as it’s easy to find and access the classes or instructors they’re following and many residents now have their own personal favorite instructors and FOD classes, which is great. Really, the convenience of the system and on-demand classes has been helpful too when there has been the occasional Covid scare as it allows residents total convenience and flexibility to work out when they like.

What’s next in your plans for Creekside at Bethpage?

We’ve grown quickly and now have more than 1,200 members. Our community will continue to grow and as it does, we’ll be looking to add more healthy lifestyle activities and choices for every one of them.
